MY STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

Even though I’m a newcomer to world of audio, I have many strengths that are sure to aid me on my creative journey. With confidence, I can say that my most notable strengths are things like:

  • A huge passion about my field of work – I absolutely love music and can’t imagine my life without it. That’s why I have no trouble spending hours on end, day or night, dug deep into my work, be it music or audio. Being able to create something new that brings positive emotions to others’ lives is just simply elevating and fills me with joy.

  • Good musical and critical listening skills – I have around 6 years of experience doing live sound mixing, not to mention I’ve spent more than 10 years playing the piano, refining my musical hearing and knowledge in music theory. Thanks to all that I’ve developed a pretty good ear in terms of finding the right balance and sound.

  • Great communication and people skills  - The only thing I might love just as much as music is creating meaningful connections with people and making new friends. I am always baffled when I see just how creative, talented and lovely people can be, especially in the world of music. Having conversations, collaborations and a wide social network is something I'm definitely ready to strive for!

  • Creativity – Whether it’s an assignment for school or a personal project, I’ve always tried to keep things unique to me and stand out with my own originality. I seek all kinds of sources for ideas and inspiration and every new discovery just adds to my artistic creativity.

  • A positive attitude – Many have said I’m one of the most optimistic and hopeful persons they’ve ever met. Even though they exaggerate (just a tiny bit though), it certainly is true that I always try to keep a positive attitude towards life and a smile on my face! I believe the Tibetan proverb that “If it can be solved, there’s no need to worry, and if it can’t be solved, worry is of no use”.

But just like nobody is perfect, I too have weaknesses I struggle with, such as:

  • Lack of experience with audio software – My biggest weakness is that I have very little experience recording and editing, even with simple tracks at home. So using a DAW is completely new to me, whereas many of my peers have recorded and worked on their own albums and EP’s.

  • Very self-critical – I tend to be somewhat of a perfectionist and most times it does more harm than good. I often don’t believe that I’ve done enough in my work and don’t notice the value and good in the things that I do accomplish. Not to mention I spend hours over-complicating things in my head and trying to get them perfect, where it would be more productive to carry on and come back at a later time.

  • A strong individualist – Being self-reliant is a double-edged sword - it’s why I struggle with trusting others when important work is divided or shared. I usually have a vision of what I’d like the finished product to look like and how I would do things myself, so oftentimes I lack faith in the abilities of the people I’m working with, but in the music industry trusting in an others' take on things is almost self-explanatory.

  • Difficulties managing my time – While I do work very hard when I do, it is difficult for me to get that beginning work process rolling. I’m often overwhelmed with a seemingly large task that awaits me and end up procrastinating and choosing some other means of instant gratification instead of just taking the bull by the horns and ultimately seeing that the process wasn't even that difficult.
