CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
Like in any field of work, there are many challenges and threats that I face in my dream of becoming a music producer and audio expert. I’d say one of the biggest ones is finding certain acknowledgement in my creative beginnings.
It goes without saying that it takes time to make a name for yourself as only a select handful of artists and producers are lucky enough to "blow up". And compared to other professionals in the Latvian music industry I am very young and just getting started. For this reason there will be those who doubt my skillset and capabilities, and at times I might even come to doubt myself. So I need to try my hardest to always leave a good impression and positive impact with my projects and work ethics as well as to complete my roles to the highest standard, therefore ensuring an easier path to future collaborations and growth in the industry. I don’t care much about fame or popularity, what's most important to me is achieving and maintaining a professional and high-quality reputation, no matter how big or small my network is.
Yet again, because of my choice to study I have an incredible opportunity to “jump-start” my audio career and producer skills and rocket to almost the same level of professionalism others might have spent many years to achieve on their own. I too had the dilemma at first of whether or not I should actually enrol in university and spend money on education when in theory I could be learning the same things online for free via YouTube. But even just after the first few weeks of my studies, I realise how amazing of an opportunity it is to gain experience working in professional recording studios with top of the line equipment and specialists who have decades of knowledge and experience backing them up, not to even mention the opportunity of networking in London, whereas most of my future competition are home producers. Not that it says anything in terms of skills and I really hope this doesn't come off as me being arrogant or superior in any way, just that it really is a blessing to have this chance at my disposal. What gives me an extra confidence boost as well is the fact that the few audio experts I have actually contacted (who have been working in Latvia for years now) are usually always very open to meet up and share their knowledge and expertise.
Even though I have a challenging road ahead in terms of forging a career from almost zero, it’s most definitely filled with opportunities. And with true effort and some time I know I'll reach the goals I’ve set for myself. Luckily enough, I already have a few wonderful and talented friends waiting for me to return to Latvia and become their recording engineer and producer. So that’s exactly where I’ll start!
